it was nick hornby who wrote in his oft-referenced high fidelity that making a mixtape for someone is like writing a love letter with other people's poetry. as the obsessive/compulsive mixtape maker knows, self imposed and frequently thematic rather than pragmatic limitations often affect the outcome of the final product. and as ben lee knew when he was 13, "every boy in the world writes a song for every girl for every girl in the world" so, it was quite refreshing for me to compose the following tracklist based entirely on the available mp3s on my computer, all of which have been downloaded and none of which are represented in my cd collection:
